PennDOT

The Pennsylvania Dept. of Public Transportation, or PennDOT, provides essential infrastructure and safety services to the state. In Elysburg, our main roads are state highways, and subject to PennDOT's authority.

How can citizens access PennDOT to be informed about resident rights, PennDOT policy, or changes to our main streets? How can citizens have a voice in decision making before projects or plans are in their last stages of finalization?

Recent PennDOT discussions:

Signs along our streets:
PennDOT has safety concerns about signs along the streets. Businesses and activists do use our streets to provide messages to the community. This seems to be an ongoing issue.

Right of way on Rt. 54 through downtown Elysburg:
PennDOT has a right of way that cuts into Market Street properties. What is PennDOTs plan for this right of way? Will they be taking more of the front yards? What are the plans?

Frequent crashes on Rt. 54

Speed limit on Market Street:
PennDOT rejected a request to lower the speed limit on Market St. Read the letter here

Speeding on Market Street is an issue for local residents. The noise, the pollution, exit and entry to driveways, stopped heating oil trucks/post-office vehicles, lack of safe sidewalks, the lack of crosswalks -- are all concerns around speeding on Market Street. PennDOT has the authority to change the speed limit. Ralpho Township Supervisors sent a letter asking about a speed limit change, and PennDOT denied the request.

Sidewalks on Market Street:
Sidewalks seem to be on PennDOTs right of way. Can they help with creating safe sidewalks along RT54? Can PennDOT planning programs like the Byways Program apply to Elysburg?
